After crushing the Cache Valley Bears in week 7, the RMFL stacked the #2 seeded Wasatch REVolution vs. the #7 seeded Cache Valley Bears in the 1st round of the 2009 RMFL Playoffs. With a ferocious intensity, the Bears proved they’re no slouch and they wanted serious revenge from the first whooping they took at the hands of the REV. Sorry Cache Valley – 2009 just wasn’t meant to be your year. Superman Setema Gali and the Incredible Hulk Matt Shoda made sure the REVolution knocked out the Bears.

SUPERMAN started the party off early. With a stirring rendition of the national anthem that had the crowd and REV players on their feet, Setema had everyone fired up from the get go. His energy and passion carried his teammates on the football field as the REV offense started the game very lethargic. The Bears would chew the clock in the 1st quarter behind the heavy duty running of Johnny Grey. The REV defense had no answers. With a 7-0 early touchdown lead, the momentum was in the Bears favor – but it wouldn’t last long. After the Bears forced a “3 and out” on the REV offense, it was back to work for the defense, and the response was powerful.

On a toss sweep Superman stripped the ball, forced the fumble, scooped it up and rumbled to the endzone with a convoy of REV defenders around him. Golden Whetman added the point after and the “race was on” from that point. The Bears never recovered as the REV unleashed a ferocious 2nd quarter all from the spark Superman gave.

After a horrendous 1st quarter start, QB Charlie Peterson ripped off three straight touchdown passes to JD Dawson, Dave Christensen and Ryan Seely. The REV defense continued to pounce and pounce all day long as the Bears were crippled in their game plan. Defensive Coordinator Ev Matagi made outstanding adjustments which countered the 1st TD drive of the game for the Bears. They never responded again until the game was basically over. The REV led 31-6 at the half.

Coming out in the 3rd quarter, SUPERMAN struck again. With a quick “club & rip” he was bearing down on the Bears QB and threw a bone crunching hit, the ball popped loose as DE Tracy Ita jumped on the pile and out popped the ball. Superman jumped on the ball and had his 2nd touchdown of the night! It was all smiles from that point on as the REV continued to roll.

Not to be outdone by SUPERMAN, the INCREDIBLE HULK MATT SHODA also had a whopping game. With 15 minute quarters and the rushing attack a proven strategy for the Bears, THE HULK was lined up for a smash mouth day. He had one hit that knocked the helmet off of the Bears running back that continued to roll 15 yards! The pads were popping all night for Shoda as he recorded a Wasatch REVolution team record with 14.5 tackles. Like a heat sinking missile, he was focused in on the running attack of the Bears and forced the action all night long.

Congratulations to both SUPERMAN Setema Gali and the INCREDIBLE HULK Matt Shoda. Both players proved why the Wasatch REVolution have the #1 defense in the RMFL.

REV GAME NOTABLES

The REV continued its defensive dominance by forcing 7 Bears turnovers.
DB’s Jared Harward, Cris Carter and Harold Ragin all recorded interceptions on the day.
WR JD Dawson continues to score TD’s after recovering from a rough shoulder injury.
LG Bryant Jones left fans clamoring for more with pancake blocks all over the place. One particular play, he raced downfield and smashed 3 different Bear defenders.
QB Dakota LaBounty played the full 2nd half. After a rough start, Dakota led the REV on a long touchdown drive to seal the game in the 4th quarter.
K Golden Whetman continued his assault on his point total. He smashed a 47 yard field goal and kicked off with both right and left foot.
WR Rich Garden recovered a Bears attempted onside kick and proves the consummate team player week in and week out.
The REV defense clearly dominated this game from start to finish.

What do YOU think of the REV’s 1st round victory in the playoffs?

I think Setema needs to go on American Idol and Shoda needs to get a professional concussion evaluation from Darin Smith the Doctor!

  2. cody says:

no they would beat BYU the need to scrimmage UTAH that would be a game.
