Matagi Brothers - TAP OUT!
In a game that was “never really a game” the Wasatch REVolution blew the doors off the Davis Cowboys. At 1-6 coming into the game, the Cowboys have been the door mat of the AAA RMFL from the outset. After taking a whooping by the 1st place Shock a week ago, the Cowboys had to travel to the red hot Wasatch REVolution’s home field. The Cowboys never had a chance as the REV opened up the flood gates with strong defensive play. In all likelihood, this game will force the Davis Cowboys down to the AA status in the RMFL.
While Davis made some head scratching mental errors, (not punting the ball down 6-0 on their own 30 yard line) the REVolution made sure to take advantage of the Cowboy miscues all night. Here’s how the TD rampage went down:
Darin Smith interception return for a TD.
Charlie Peterson 9 yard run for a TD.
Perry Laulu 3 yard TD run.
JD Dawson 39 yard TD reception.
Dave Christensen 13 yard TD reception.
Ryan Seely 6 yard TD reception.
Perry Laulu 4 yard TD reception.
Dave Christensen 18 yard TD reception.
JD Dawson 27 yard TD reception.
Sean Matagi fumble recovery TD.
Those were just all the touchdowns. Add all the 7 turnovers forced by the REV defense – Harold Ragin 2 INT’s – and this was just an absolute nightmare for the Cowboys. They were outmatched in every facet of the game and should not be playing at the AAA RMFL level with only 22 players.
All REV players were rewarded for their tremendous hard work and effort placed in the preparation for each game week in and week out. None took more advantage of the opportunities presented than back-up QB Dakota Labounty. Dakota, despite the mercy rule running clock, was able to make high caliber plays. He threw a laser to leaping JD Dawson in the back of the endzone which had everyone saying, “Wow.” Not bad for an 18 year old! Dakota is looking to land at a Div. 1 school on scholarship.
Other REV players made tremendous contributions, the MATAGI brothers brought the pressure all night. Tracy Ita and Matt Taliulu each forced 2 sacks. Matt Shoda was a missile with tackle after tackle behind the line of scrimmage. The Cowboys just couldn’t get anything going all night long. It’s going to be a tough off-season for their organization.
The REV used this game to “tap out” the opposition and warm up for the 2009 RMFL AAA Playoffs!
