What the heck was the RMFL thinking when it tried to match the Wasatch REVolution with the Utah Wolverines to build a supposed natural in-state rivalry? Rather than have 2 teams battle for supremacy in the AAA South Division, the REV have taken a stranglehold on the division with huge and dominating victories in the past 3 weeks. The REV had 3 straight road wins – Boise, ID – St.George, UT – and now, the Utah Wolverines at Cottonwood HS. After blowing out the Wolverines in the 1st game, the REV coasted to an easy victory that could have been much, much worse for the Wolverines. A blocked punt saved the Wolverines from a “zero” on the scoreboard, but the REV have clearly shown dominance in their conference with their opponents.

Here’s how the Friday Night Lights game went down:

1st Quarter

The tone of the game was set from the very first play of the game when the Wolverines kicked the ball off to The Predator – Harold Ragin. Harold fielded the ball at the 3 yard line and seemed to be gliding up field when Wolverines tackler Joe Mapson had a shot to bring Harold down… but it was not to be tonight…. The Predator shed the tackle and turned on the turbo jets through mid-field before coasting to a touchdown. With just 9 seconds off the play clock, the REV led 7-0 and it was all downhill for the Wolverines from then on out. The Predator struck early and the rest of the REV joined the assault.

On his 1st pass, Peterson completed a short 4 yard TD to Ryan Seely. After a REV stop, David Christensen would haul in a 55 yard TD reception. Then, looking to slam the door early, the REV inserted the Predator for another 33 yard TD pass. In Charlie Peterson’s first 3 passes, 3 resulted in touchdowns. At the end of the 1st quarter, the REV led 28-0.

2nd Quarter

Sensing a route, the REV defense went on attack mode like a bunch of crazed hyenas. An interception by – who else, The Predator – led to another TD pass by Peterson to Toby Christensen. Golden Whetman added a 31-yard field goal and QB Charlie Peterson called it a night after a 5 yard TD pass to Marcus Whalen. On the night, Peterson finished 12 for 14 for 227 yards and 5 touchdowns. At halftime, the REV led 44-0.

3rd Quarter

Coming out of halftime, the REV defense was determined to force a shut out. By holding Joe Mapson to just 2 catches, the REV played “lockdown” defense all night and constantly pummeled the Wolverines front 7. In fact, the Wolverines barely gained 100 yards on the day. It was “shut em’ down D” as the REV forced turnovers and time and time again put the ball in the REV offense hands. With 2:50 left in the 3rd, 18 year old QB Dakota LaBounty (still in high school) threw an 18 yard strike to TE Ryan Seely. Seely had 2 TD’s on the night and has been Mr. Steady all season long for the REV. At the end of 3 quarters, the REV led 51-0.

4th Quarter

As the Wolverines tried to regroup and put a consistent drive together, the REV defense refused to budge. LB Brandon Messenger delivered some big hits with his playing time and LB’s Matt Shoda, Darin Smith and Sean Matagi were playmakers all night long. DB Cris Carter recorded another interception and leads the RMFL in INT’s. With 8:18 left in the 4th, QB Dakota LaBounty again pounced with a 34 yard TD to Rich Garden. “Worm” made an impressive move at the line of scrimmage to beat the jamming Wolverines DB and was off to the races on the perfectly placed spiral from LaBounty. 58-0 REV at that point.

The only time the REV sputtered all night was a “3 & out” series in which the REV was forced to punt. Unfortunately, the skipped snap was received by punter Jordan Lindsey but he was unable to get the kick off in time as the Wolverines blocked the punt. The Wolverines scored on the fumble recovery and erased the shut out from the REV. Big whoop. Final score? WASATCH REVOLUTION 58 – UTAH WOLVERINES 7.

I have to say, your team is absolutely “sick”!!!! How in the world did you lose the first game of the season. When you play the Utah Shock in the playoffs, I want to see snot bubbles from the over rated QB, the running game out as of the first series and the two receivers knocked out cold! Even as a female I love football and the bloodier, the better! Go REV!! I might even flash everyone with my DDs if you win the Championship!!
