Who we are!

The Wasatch Revolution is a new and elite team in the Rocky Mountain Football League. Featuring ex-BYU and ex-Utah football players, this team brings fans on both sides some exciting football!

Playing against teams in Montana, Idaho and Utah, the RMFL is continually looking for expansion opportunities and has landed a wonderful home with the Wasatch Revolution in South Jordan, Utah.

The Revolution have a strong business platform and plan to execute the following goals:

# 1 – Through corporate sponsorship and working in conjunction with the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce, the Revolution will work to have the highest fan base and attendance in the RMFL.

# 2 – Allow players, fans and community leaders a platform, in both social and business settings, to grow their sphere of influence and abilities to grow their individual business opportunities.

# 3 – Charity work. The goal is to provide over 100 hours of community service – working together with fans.

# 4 – Have a “family” team of 50 highly qualified, motivated and talented football players. While all players are welcome to come and “try out”, a roster of 50 sets the cap limit.

# 5 – Win. Win. Win. The Revolution will put the best players on the field and offer phenomenal entertainment. Football is, without question, the greatest stage for hard hits, physical punishment and outstanding execution.

COME AND BE A PART OF OUR TEAM!

The Wasatch Revolution are founded and ran bye a four person Management group. The group include Charlie Peterson, Matt Shoda, Golden Whetman, and Jeffrey Wheeler. The Wasatch Revolution were founded shortly after the 2008 RMFL allstar game. Shortly after the All-Star the Ownership group was formed and the wheels were put in motion. Wanting a desire to help continue the careers of players while creating a player friendly atmosphere was the main goal. The revolution expect to compete for an RMFL title from the get go.

Charlie Peterson:

Charlie Peterson has been involved heavily in football since his early days at Bingham High School. As a starting quarterback at Bingham, he led his team to the playoffs in both years as the starter and was named to Salt Lake Tribune’s 1st team All-State team. Charlie also excelled in basketball and baseball while at Bingham HS. He was awarded the USA Today Player of the Year in football and was recruited on a full ride scholarship to play football at BYU.

After a 2 year LDS mission to the Fiji Islands, Charlie returned to play football at BYU and compete for the starting job. In 2000, Charlie was BYU’s leading passer and broke Jim McMahon’s record for most consecutive passes without an interception. An accurate and proficient passer, Charlie also helped lead BYU to a 12-2 record in 2001. The BYU Cougars ended that season with a top 20 ranking. He finished with a passer rating of 172.50.

From BYU, Charlie went on to numerous stints in both the Arena Football League and also the Canadian Football League. In the Arena League, Charlie finished with over 125 TD passes with teams in Florida and Illinois. From there, Charlie moved on to the CFL where he played with the Toronto Argonauts.

Charlie is a new addition to the Rocky Mountain Football League. After “getting the itch to play” he decided to join the RMFL and had a tremendous season his first year. He finished the year as the league’s leading passer and led the Utah Wolverines to the championship game. He was also named 1st team All-Star and Offensive MVP of the league.

With an opportunity to work with the managing board of the Wasatch Revolution, Charlie has jumped in with both feet. Charlie states, “The Wasatch Revolution presents an incredible opportunity to bring spring football to the forefront of the south Salt Lake Valley. With the support of Bingham High School and the community, we are happy to offer an outstanding football product and be a mainstay in South Jordan for years to come.”

Golden Whetman:

Golden Whetman stumbled into football on accident. In the summer before his sophomore year at Kearns High School, he was required to play football in order to be in the Weight Training class. So he chose the easiest position the team had, and that was the kicker/punter. During his high school years, Kearns High School stuggled as a team, which led to a lot of punting duties. He kicked a 53 yd field goal as a junior, followed up with a 2nd Team All-State Special Team nomination for leading the state in Punting as a senior. This led to some recognition and interest from some of the surrounding college programs. While the in state schools were hesitant to offer up any scholarship offers, Whetman chose to begin his collegiate career in Idaho at Ricks Junior College. His freshman year at Ricks was a successful one, leading the Junior College Ranks in Punting with a season avg of 44.5. This was good enough to earn him an All-American status and enough for the University of Utah to take notice and offer up a scholarship for his duties.

At the University of Utah, Golden was on his way to earning the placekicking job from the Utes previous kicker. But the NCAA Clearinghouse erroneously declared Whetman ineligible (he was later granted that year of eligibility back) for the 1998 season, the year the kicker infamousl hit the field goal post to win the game against their rivals BYU. The following year after being cleared to play, Whetman won the starting field goal position and kicked his first field goal at Washington State, a 48 yd field goal, earning him the Special Teams Player of the Game.

He finished his career with the 2nd longest field goal in school history, a 55 yd field goal against Wyoming on the frozen tundra of Cowboy stadium. Whetman decided to hang up his collegiate career, giving up his final year of elligibility, to help his newly divorced mother and brothers. The decision was a hard one, but worth it in the long run.

Along the way between his collegiate career at the University of Utah and the RMFL, Whetman made brief appearances for the NIFL arena team the Utah Warriors, and a successful tryout with the Utah Blaze.

The Rocky Mountain Football League has been a way to continue playing after the rocky road, thanks to former Ute Vince Tauanuu and former Wasatch Wildcat coach who introduced him to the league. After playing with the now defunct Wildcats, Whetman tracked down the current Wasatch Revolution Head Coach Eric Drage, and asked if there was a spot for him on the Utah Wolverines. Drage asked him to come aboard and with the Utah Wolverines. After a successful Wolverine career, he is continuing his career with the Revolution. Whetman met and became close with the new Revolution managing board, and hopes to bring something positive to this team and league to better represent the ideology that he has envisioned for it.
