REV to wear BLUE at home in 2010…

BYU UTAH RIVALRY 2009
REV to wear BLUE at home in 2010…
With the exciting finish of the BYU/UTAH 2009 Football Clash, BYU’s victory in overtime over in-state rival Utah means the Wasatch REVolution will wear BLUE home jerseys this year. With a 26-23 victory in overtime, BYU sealed the deal for the traditional “decision maker” of what color home jersey the REV wear. Last year, the REV home jersey was RED in honor of Utah’s shellacking over BYU. This year, the tides changed as BYU won in overtime on a gut wrenching touchdown pass in overtime which put the Cougars over the top. The tradition of the Wasatch REVolution is to wear either the RED or BLUE home jersey depending on which team, BYU or Utah, wins. Thanks for helping the REV go BLUE this year Cougs!
Former BYU Cougars on the Wasatch REVolution include: Head Coach Eric Drage, QB Charlie Peterson, WR Dave Christensen, WR Toby Christensen, OL Aaron McCubbins, OL Teag Whiting, DE Setema Gali, RB Marcus Whalen and LB Justin Ena (1 game).
Former Utah Utes on the Wasatch REVolution include: Defensive Coordinator Ev Matagi, Kicker Golden Whetman, DL Pene Talamavaio, LB Brady Nelson
In side news, the REV had 4 players – WR Dave Christensen, WR Toby Christensen, WR Eric Drage and QB Charlie Peterson compete in the 2nd annual 1280 “The Zone” Rivalry Classic. This game raises money for Utah’s Road Home and was attended heavily raising thousands of dollars for Utah’s homeless. Several of the 2009 Sugar Bowl Champion Utes competed including headline star QB Brian Johnson. While the Cougs were overmatched with age, they performed admirably and lost to the Utes. Brian Johnson was named MVP while REV QB Charlie Peterson earned the MVP honors for the Cougs side.
Currently, the Wasatch REVolution is pursuing ANY former BYU and/or Utah players who want to strap on the helmet and join the incredible Rocky Mountain Football League. Please email “management@wasatchrevolution.com” for any further details.
Congratulations to all Utah and BYU fans for an incredible rivalry game in 2009! The REV are proud!
“WasatchREV.com” starting to come online…

2009 RMFL Champs
The Wasatch REVolution blog will soon become “just another source” away from our home page website at www.wasatchrev.com. REV GM Golden Whetman is spending countless hours getting 2010 REV sponsors lined up and providing a stronger platform for a more “marketable” team website.
While this blog will always be here, during the season the most active news articles, bio’s on players, and other pertinent information will be found on that website. The REV blog will be used more for communication between players, etc.
If you are interested in playing for the Wasatch REVolution in the 2010 season, please feel free to email “management@wasatchrevolution.com” for more information. We’re currently looking for all position players with the season starting in April of 2010.

Wasatch REV enjoying 2009 “off season” of college football.

REV Parade 044
With the “off season” here for the Wasatch REVolution, players are excited about the college football season. The BYU Cougars upset the Oklahoma Sooners over the weekend and earlier, the Utah Utes hammered the Utah State Aggies. Opening weekend of college football brought back football into the limelight.
Heading into 2010, the REV are looking for additional roster spots to be filled and also to upgrade their marketing package into the South Jordan community. With all the success of Bingham High School football program, the tradition should continue quite well for the Wasatch REV.
After the college football season ends, look for the Wasatch Revolution to kick recruiting into full gear and bring their high prolific offense and defense to an even higher level in 2010.
Congratulations to the 2009 RMFL Award winners….

Memories of 2009 Season – Wasatch Revolution
What a fun time. This has been a pretty hard year for me. I personally have felt the downfall in the economy in quite a large way. Playing for the Wasatch Revolution has been such an escape for me. For 4 hours on Saturday I didn’t think once about the financial trials I, or my company, was facing. It was so nice to get out there and catch balls, score touchdowns, get hit, hit back, mess around with the guys, and most importantly win.
Regardless of the reasons people played (love football, love competition, love hitting, felt you were disrespected by your high school coach, or college coach, your career ended poorly, you developed late, you wanted film to send to colleges, all of the above, or you just wanted Charlie to stop calling you) everyone wants to win. Winning the championship was the only way I’d look at this as a successful endeavor. Did I have fun. Check. Did I avoid serious injury. Check. Did I get Charlie off my back. Check. DID I WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. CHECK CHECK CHECK.
Once I committed to playing that was the only goal I had. Sure I wanted to catch a ton of balls and score a bunch of touchdowns but we had so many guys who could do that it really didn’t matter which guy did it as long as it was someone from the Rev. I made a lot of new friends and even renewed some old ones (DC, Harward, Chuck, Setema, Teag, Cubs, Marcus) I was very impressed with the entire team. I know Charlie said to point out those that impressed me but it’s too hard to focus on just one. The defense was outstanding. The O-line was great. Our running backs never complained about us throwing the ball 80-90% of the time. The wideouts and tight ends I got to play with were top notch and of course, Chuck and Dakota were outstanding.
I really like how we came together as a team on and off the field. Off the field, Chuck, Eric, and Golden were constantly doing extra for me personally as well as the team. Darin Smith not only led the defense but took all my medical inquiries as well. This wasn’t just a championship team, but a team full of good people. I’m proud to be a part of it. Thanks to everyone and hopefully you all come back to play another year.

What are your thoughts about “TC” and the REV of 2009?
REVresent! Wasatch Revolution players team with South All-Stars to close out the 2009 RMFL year…

Dave Christensen 2009 RMFL All Star Game MVP
With the 2009 AAA RMFL Championship safely in hand, the All Star festivities had the Wasatch REVolution teamed with other South Division All-Stars to cruise to a 55-41 victory in a wild and wacky game in Rexburg, Idaho. Wasatch Revolution players included Bryant Jones, Charlie Peterson, Golden Whetman, Harold Ragin, Darin Smith, Aaron McCubbins, Tracy Ita, Jared Harward, Ken Byrd and David Christensen. The REV players all performed well and “took the cake” with the weekend festivities.
The Predator Harold Ragin once again dominated in the RMFL Fastest Man competition. At age 41, Harold is a dominant athlete and blew all other competitors out of the water. He coasted to victories in the preliminaries and looked over his shoulder while pulling up in the finals. Harold also dominated the longest throw competition. Pulling back while in a javelin throwing position, Harold easily beat competitor Shane Jurasek of the BitterRoot Blaze. Congratulations to Harold for dominating the RMFL fastest man competition and the RMFL longest throw awards.
Mr. Big Time – Bryant Jones – was dominant in the strongest man competition. After trying not to laugh at the competition, Bryant got under the rack and threw up 225 lbs 18 times to win the competition. Afterwards Bryant remarked, “I didn’t want to throw up 30+ because it just didn’t seem like it was worth it.” Defensive tackles across the RMFL realize just how strong and powerful he is as he had an outstanding blocking performance in the All Star game as well.
REV QB Charlie Peterson had a fun day on the football field. As the South’s starting QB, Peterson threw a touchdown pass to Shock WR Matt Thornton and also completed a few passes to REV receiver Dave Christensen. He seemed to enjoy the day and was all smiles as admired Golden Whetman lining up at defensive end in the All Star game. “Can you believe that?” Peterson remarked after Golden came off the edge for a sack. For Peterson, a chance to compete against other RMFL players is always a good time.
Head Coach Eric Drage enjoyed a family vacation and put his REV players to work. The South offense was typical for Eric’s style of offense – spread the formation and “air it out.” Coach Drage remarked, “Today was all about fun. We had a good time and we won the game.” Coach Drage is fired up about next year and sees no reason why the REV can’t repeat for the championship in 2010.
Offensive lineman Ken Byrd was sumo wrestling defensive opponents all night. As another powerful lineman for the REV’s #1 ranked offense, Ken played an integral role in keeping REV QB Charlie Peterson protected all year long. With his competitive demeanor, “Birdman” was pancaking opponents all night. Look for Ken to maintain his form in the off-season and come back ready to ball in the spring. Pairing with McCubbins and Bryant Jones, those 3 REV o-lineman played almost the entire evening. (LT JP Salisbury was voted in but could not come to the game due to scheduling conflicts.)
REV LB Darin Smith was all smiles all weekend. During the halftime awards, Darin was outvoted by 1 vote for defensive MVP. The voting process in the RMFL is absolutely embarrassing. Only 10 of the 14 AAA GM’s attended the event and then tiebreakers were withheld because some GM’s voted for “marginal” players who weren’t really in the running in the first place. Darin’s comments, “Just to be in the running for league defensive MVP was an honor. It really doesn’t matter anyway. I don’t worry about things I can’t control. I can control winning championships with the REV though.” – after the comment, the smile on his face was from ear to ear. “The Doctor” was all over the field in the All Star game and made multiple bone crunching tackles. Darin is the epitome of what the Wasatch Revolution is all about and regardless of the “snub” from the RMFL – he’s a champion!
Left tackle Aaron McCubbins looked like he was still in his prime as he flew around on both sides of the ball at the All Star game. A former 2-way player in the Arena Football League, “Cubs” bull rushed from the defensive tackle position and pancaked dudes from the offensive side. McCubbins performed admirably all season for the Revolution and really anchored the offensive line. After closing in on a sack, Cubs waffled over to the sidelines and said, “Did you see how far I threw that guy from BitterRoot?” – McCubbins plans on being with the REV in 2010 and will continue to be among the best in the RMFL hands down.
Anchoring the defensive secondary all night long, REV DB Jared Harward had an outstanding performance at the All Star. As he’d done all year long with the REV, Jared had 2 interceptions in the All Star game and was all over the field making tackles and barking out defensive settings for his teammates. The consummate team player, Jared relishes in the fact that no matter what happens off the field, respect is always earned on the field. Mr. Harward has everyone’s respect. Period.
“THEE” Tracy Ita lined up at defensive end and was chasing down RB’s for the North and knocking down and harassing the 2 North QB’s all night long. In the heat of the game, Tracy plays with a serious chip on his shoulder and goes on attack mode from the outset. Always a jokester, Tracy keeps things light on and off the field. On the drive up he noted, “Too bad the rest of the REV don’t get to join the humpfest today.” Tracy has been pounding opponents into submission all season and the All Star game was no exception.
Super kicker – if you want to call him a “kicker” – Golden Whetman was all over the field on Saturday night. G Money was blasting the kickoffs through the uprights and his powerful leg was on display early on. He easily could have won the “strongest leg” competition and make it a clean sweep for the REV, but Golden was performing GM duties at the AAA league meetings. After being asked how the league meetings were, Golden rolled his eyes, sighed, paused and then remarked – “It’s a joke.” Despite his complicated GM duties, Golden performed as a defensive terror on the football field. Lining up in the 2nd half as a defensive end, Golden came off the edge and forced a fumble one play. On another he had a QB sack. Golden wants to relinquish his kicking duties next season and line up as a full time defensive player for the REV. Golden was also “snub” by the RMFL for GM of the year. How a 1st year GM can concoct the best team, the championship team, in the RMFL the VERY FIRST TIME could not be voted “GM of the Year” is absurd. Always classy, Golden remarked, “It doesn’t matter. I don’t care. Who cares? We’re the champs and that’s all that matters. If the rest of the RMFL wants to play patty cake, go right ahead. We’re the champs.” No wonder why he’s the GM of the REV.
David Christensen was co-offensive MVP of the 2009 RMFL All-Star game. He made multiple catches and had over 100 yards receiving on the day. With his consistent zig zag burst, it’s no wonder why Dave flew onto the scenes in the RMFL. He hauled in multiple passes and fielded punts and kickoffs. Dave is a spark plug and highly flammable with the ball in his hands. As soon as he catches it, he’s catching fire while leaving defensive players grasping for air with his jukes and bursts. Without question, Dave woke the league up with his skills. Combining him with the other stellar REV WR’s leaves the REV’s offense in a strong position for another run in 2010. Congratulations to Dave Christensen for winning the MVP award!
With the off-season here for the REVolution, look for REV players to team up in the community for football camps, bbq’s, golf outings and other fun events. The RMFL will begin the season next year in March of 2010.
Congratulations to ALL members of the Wasatch Revolution!! Being an “all star” means jack crap next to being a “CHAMPION”!!
Championship Run Memories 2009
Here are some comments made by REV players for the 2009 championship run…

Vince 96
Vince 96 – “I think the thing that mad me laugh the most is watching coach Drage suit up, it reminds me of me every year I had a team is it would get to the first game and I would find an excuse to suit up. I remember every game because I played in this year, because I would normally be driving in right before the game or rushing to get there and my volleyball team would win the tournament because they would know that coach was trying to leave for a football game. I really love the fact that I was always given the opportunity to other positions especially MLB in the Championship game. One can’t forget the beating down of the BLITZ twice, again playing DE. I also got to play other positions, which was pretty dang cool. I watched the ownership go through the struggles that I have gone through for over 10 years of organizing teams and managing them. If players understood what goes into the team they would probably be a little more committed. I am so proud of you guys in understanding that there is 2 sides of this business side and relationship side. I really enjoyed playing with all our teammates, the new friends that I made and the old ones I have been with over the many years of being involved in semi-pro ball. Much Love and Respect! to all. Thank You!”

The Wasatch REVolution are the 2009 RMFL CHAMPIONS

Championship Pic
In the defining game of the Wasatch REVolution’s 2009 season – the championship game – the REV performed at a high level on all cylinders to win the RFML 2009 AAA Crown. Heading into the game, the REV’s opponent, the Utah Shock was the only team that had beaten the REV all year long. The lone blemish on the Shock’s schedule came at the end of the season – thanks to the outstanding play of the REV.
According the the RMFL Commissioner Jared Neuemeier,
Game Summary/Box Score – 2009 AAA CHAMPIONSHIP
June 27, 2009 Wasatch Revolution at Utah Shock @ Cottonwood High School
REVOLUTION AVENGE ONLY LOSS IN CAPTURING RMFL TITLE, 49-32!
Game Story by: Jared Neumeier
SALT LAKE CITY – In a rematch of what had become… clearly the two best teams in the Rocky Mountain Football League, the Wasatch Revolution, in their first season of existence, overwhelmed the Utah Shock with a swarming defense, accounting for 5 turnovers, including 4 interceptions, and overcame 185 yards in team penalties to avenge a regular season loss to the Utah Shock, with a 49-32 RMFL Championship victory Saturday night in Salt Lake City.
Under perfect weather conditions in the Salt Lake Valley, Wasatch quarterback, Charlie Peterson, passed for 293 yards and 4 touchdowns, including the first two of the game to JD Dawson to take a 15-0 lead going into the second quarter. After coming wide open for the first touchdown reception with 5:17 to go in the first quarter, a 5-yard catch to give the Revolution an 8-0 lead (the conversion was run in by Golden Whetman after a bad snap, but a great run), Dawson made an incredible touchdown catch after Charlie Peterson launched a deep pass from just inside the 50-yard line to Dawson who caught it simultaneously with a Shock defender and then kept his balance as he pulled away into the end zone for the 15-0 lead. Dawson would go on to catch 7 passes in the game for a team-leading 110 yards.
The Revolution extended the lead to 22-0 on the first of two Marcus Whalen touchdown runs with 8:15 to go in the first half., all of those stars don’t line up in that fashion, I expect the Bears will be “too much” and there will be a new king wearing the crown of Rocky Mountain Football League Champion. Prediction: Cache Valley 28 Rhino-Raiders 17.
The Shock would mount a late first half drive that would culminate in a 33-yard Colton Cook field goal with only 30 seconds left.
The Shock, who moved the ball well, oftentimes benefitting from numerous Wasatch penalties, were stymied by turnovers. Former RMFL MVP and 2009 candidate, Jordan Kjar, made several key mistakes, including 4 interceptions on the evening, several of which were deep in Wasatch territory. Kjar, however, would finish the evening with 287 yards passing on 37 completions and 4 touchdowns.
But the MVP of the game, as voted on by the game broadcasters, was the Revolution quarterback, Peterson.
Peterson, who’s own key interceptions in the regular season meeting may have lead to the earlier loss took better care of the ball than did Kjar in this game and that may have been the difference. Peterson through for the big yards and the big scores under almost constant harassment from the Shock defense; ultimately being sacked 6 times for 61 yards in the game.
In the second half, the Shock struck quickly with 12:26 to go in the third quarter on a the first Kjar touchdown pass to Colby Cook to draw the Shock to within 22-10.
It seemed, however, for each Shock score, the Revolution had an answer.
Peterson quickly lead the team down the field and found back up tight end, Andy Hatfield for a perfect 23-yard strike with 9:30 to go in the 3rd quarter to rebuild the lead back to 19 at 29-10.
After another Utah Shock Colton Cook field goal, the Revolution extended the lead on the second Whalen touchdown and Wasatch seemed insurmountably ahead 36-13.
But the Shock would com back.
Matt Thornton made a great tackle-breaking play with 10:40 to go in the 4th to pull the Shock to within 36-20… and this time, the Revolution did not have an immediate answer. The next two Shock drives, however, ended in interceptions, but the Shock defense held, behind Matt Christensen (5 tackles, 3 sacks), Matt Peterson (4-1/2 tackles, interception) and Ryan Morrow (4-1/2 tackles) held strong.
With 4:05 remaining in the game, the Shock would make it very interesting. Jordan Kjar found Chad Kjar for a 4-yard touchdown pass to pull the Shock to within a made two point play of being only one score down with plenty of time remaining in the game.
This time it was the Wasatch defense that asserted itself capturing Kjar on an attempted pass an squelching almost all hope of a final Shock rally and comeback.
Almost immediately after getting the ball, Peterson hit David Christensen on another long touchdown play and on the first play from scrimmage after the Revolution touchdown, Shawn Kelly scooped up a Chris Hooper fumble and raced in from 25-yards out with 3:17 to go in the game and suddenly, after the Shock was an eyelash shy of being one score down, the Revolution had the game in had 49-26.
Although Peterson and his talented receivers got top billing and the MVP award, it was the Revolution defense that kept the explosive Shock offense off balance, forcing the errors and turning the game around. Receiving top consideration for the games MVP’s were linebacker Darin Smith, who recorded 10 tackles on the day and defensive back/kick returner, Harold Regin who had 6 tackles and two interceptions while returning two kick-offs for an average of 37 yards each.
Side stories in the game may have included two powerful kickers. The Shocks Colton Cook and Wasatch’s, Golden Whetman put on a showcase of talent, kicking many kickoffs all the way through the end zone. The Wasatch Revolution penalties were significant. The Revolution were hit for 16 penalties for 185 yards, both RMFL Championship game records. Almost all of which stymied their own offensive drives or extended Shock drives in the game. After 3-1/2 quarters of relatively calm play, emotions broke out late. Although they were kept under control, some bad blood may have lead to the Revolution’s decision to continue to pass the ball and try to score late in the game rather than taking a knee and securing the win.
